So the other day when I was at school, we had another intruder in my class.
This time a small monkey crawled through the window and was swinging from the rafters in my class.

Ok... So that's not really true. Someone pointed out to me that the title of my blog is the mostly true tales and musings of a new adventurer and said that so far my tales were all true. So I thought I should probably lie. I think I'll start today off with some funny quotes, if I can remember them.

One morning one of my students walked up to my desk and looks at me completely seriously and says, " Miss, I need your help." "Yes, what do you need?" " Whose grandmother smells better, mine or his?"

What?! Where do they come up with this stuff.

Another random happening of this week, one of my students frequently makes weird faces. After making a particularly strange face with his tongue hanging out and his head shaking back and forth and making strange noises while moving his hands (those of you who know what I mean by the Lord Voldemort face will understand, I looked at him and said, "what are you doing?" "I just finished my quiz." "...and?" " This is my face of victory!"

Student: Miss, I have news for you!
Me: What is that.
Student: You (long pause) are a girl.
Me: Yes, yes I am.
Student giggles hysterically (this is apparently a good fifth grade joke)
Student: I have another news for you.
ME: What?
Student: I am also a girl!
Me: What? I can't believe it.
Student laughs even harder. I still don't understand this joke.

I know there were more this week, but currently this is what I can remember, without my little piece of paper beside my desk.

In other news I hit the two month mark yesterday! I can't believe that I have been here for two whole months. It doesn't quite seem possible. I feel like I am still so new at so much of this!

Lately, I've had some awesome things happen. Last weekend, I got to go on a retreat with a bunch of the high school students. They asked for volunteers and I felt like I was being prompted to go. I wasn't really sure why, but I felt that God was able to use me even in just being an extra hand to help. Also, the speakers were awesome and I feel like I was being encouraged just as much as the students. It was cool for me to see the hope of who my students will grow into some day. Also, the speakers really spoke to my heart. Dwight Robertson and two of his friends from Kingdom Building Ministries in Colorado were here for the whole week. Ironically, he had come to speak at a Chapel at IWU about two years ago. Anyways, these men were here to minister to the students but really made me feel important and cared for as well. One of the quotes that I heard from Dwight that will stick with me was, "The greatest gift you can give the world is your own intimacy with God." This has been something that God has been teaching me over the past weeks and months. Just hearing that and realizing how much easier serving him can become when I am in communication and relationship with him every single day, and listening for his promptings in everything I do. If it hadn't been for his prompting I would have never ended up on that retreat.
God is so good.

Another new thing of the past few weeks. I had my first actual sickness this week. Nothing serious, but I did throw up and I am fairly certain that I had a fever. I had a sub for one day which did make my students happy to see me the next day. Several of them cheered when they saw me and hugged me. =)

On that note, I thought I would leave you with a few prayer requests:
- For continued willingness to put my own plans aside and follow God's prompting, even if I am afraid of looking foolish or being wrong.
- for patience with my students, especially when cultural differences cause them to think it's ok to be disrespectful.
- For me to be able to invest fully in being here and to keep feeling more at home and build relationships
- for safety and health

I would also like to be praying for all of you, so if you have anything I can pray for you for, please send me and email or a facebook message. I would love to be praying for you as well.
With love,
Jennifer
