5th grade makes me smile (Edition 1)
So, I just thought I would put a few funny things that have been said or done in my class in the past week as a little update. Also, a few of my highlights.
- Yesterday, I received an apple from a student. I think this means my career is complete?
- I was informed by one of my students that she did not need to copy down notes because she was a genius. She told me I could call her Alberta Einstein.
- Today grading a science experiment sheet I discovered several misunderstandings. We did a science experiment involving a tug of war.
Question: Was there a time that the forces on the rope were balanced. How do you know?
Answer: Yes, when there was _ and _ on this side and __ and ___ on the other. I know because I was there.
What conclusions can you draw from the tug of wars you watched when the sides were unbalanced?
*** Without fail, I received a drawing of several children pulling on a rope.
I love ESL students. =)
- I handed out index cards to my children and had them fill out some facts about themselves on the first day. One of the things that I needed to know about my student was: I really really like chocolate. Today I had an entire conversation about it, feeling slightly amused.
Today, the student asked me, "Do you like Chocolate?"
I said, "Yes, of course."
"Why do you like it?"
"Because it's delicious."
" Oh yes of course."
"Do you like chocolate?" I asked him.
"Everyday of my life." - Followed by a huge grin and awkward laughter.
- Me: And you all need to put your names on your paper and the date and the assignment just like I did here in the example... except obviously don't put Miss Yoder.
Student: But I am miss Yoder. (Smiles and waves like a pageant queen)
Me: That's not how I wave.
Student: Oh no this is you. (Proceeds to wave profusely, with a huge smile and eyes squinted shut.)
Me: (laughing) Are you making fun of my squinty eyes?
Student: Oh no miss. I love when you squinty your eyes like that. You are so cute... just like a little baby.
Also, in one of the other classes a kid has dubbed himself "fatman" and prefers to be called as such. He seems to be the hero of the grade.
Fifth graders are hilarious.
