Dear....
So, I've been to write about my experience from a week and a half ago, but I haven't finished that post yet. So I'm going to have to share that later and share some of my thoughts on the last week of school now! Tomorrow is my last day of school of this year. It seems absolutely crazy. It's easy to wonder what I've accomplished, but I do believe that my students have learned. They have learned they have grown and now they are ready to leave the elementary and be sixth graders! Wow! I am going to miss them so much! They are great kids and the more I get to know them, the more I see how smart they really are. They have so many dreams. I gave them an assignment this week, where they had to write a letter of advice to next years fifth graders. I thought I would include some of my favorite pieces of advice from the letters.
"In fifth grade they will do many works in group, so you need to don't complain of your groups and of the homework."
"The favorite thing you will like is to be with Miss Yoder because she is the favorite miss in 5th grade and to learn things that they will help you in all your life."
"Be sure that God is with you in everything. And there is too much homework and fun with Miss Yoder. She make us learn with fun and happies."
"A way to be successful can be being good with your teacher, paying attention and being kind."
"One thing you should know about 5th grade is that you can have fun and get bored, but almost all the time is fun. You have to study a lot, especially for reading, math, and science."
"Sometimes you will go outside to read or play. With Miss Yoder everything is fun. So don't make Miss Yoder angry, or you won't play."
"Miss Yoder will love you a lot. She is very nice and kind with everyone. She helps people with their problems. Think about what you do before you do it. Sometimes Miss Yoder gets mad because we talk a lot. So don't talk and she will be nice all day long."
"If you are a good person, Miss Yoder will give you tickets (helpful). "
"If you want to make Miss Yoder to do funny things you need to make her drink coffee."
"When you are on a quiz or test don't talk because she is gonna take you a point. Or when she is talking and you are talking with a friend she is gonna make you flip a card to you and your friend."
"You also need to read more and more books."
"You can have fun, but don't pass of the line with your jokes."
"Never be sad because Miss Yoder will help you. Just be happy and don't do nothing bad."
"Math was my difficulty. But don't be afraid, I hope you understand better than me."
"Maybe you will be popular or people will talk back of you. But just tell them if you need to tell me something say it on my face and just confort it."
"I'll give you an advice don't be disrespectful to Miss Yoder because she will flip your card."
"One of my favorite things in fifth grade was the retreat because we got to play, run, do a talent show and the tug of war. I liked it because we got to go in the mud if we lost."
"In fifth grade their are lot of tests and project that if you make your best you will be a triumphant student to the next year."
"(5th grade retreat) Let me let you know that it will be a retreat that you will never forget anytime, never! You will know to praise God and how to combine your heart with others."
So these are just parts of the letters. I just thought they were so good I had to share them. It's so great to see how much most of my students said they loved 5th grade and they loved the retreat. It's amazing how well they know me. Ha ha. They know exactly how I act with them and what things I will tolerate and what I don't.
I thought as a closing I would write a letter to what I want my fifth graders to know, which I will probably read to them tomorrow.

Dear Almost Sixth Graders,
I can’t believe how fast this year
has gone. It has been a privilege to be your teacher this year. I have seen all of you grow this year,
in your height, in your knowledge, in you ability to be a friend, and as a
person. I have seen all of you in your best moments and the worst ones. I have
seen you study hard and get A’s on tests and quizzes. I have seen you forget
things and decide you didn’t want to do them. I have you seen you make
beautiful projects. You have at times amazed me with your kindness and your
patience. I have seen you bother
and annoy each other more than I thought possible. Are you perfect? No. But I
am so glad that I got to spend this year with you, every minute of it. The good
and the bad. These things work together to make this whole year wonderful. So before you move on there are a
couple of things I want you to know.
1. You are absolutely, each one of
you, loved and so special. You are loved by me and more importantly you are
loved by God. I see each one of
you as someone different. You all have something special to offer. I love you
for that and simply because you’re in my class. God sees these things even more than me. Even though I can’t
follow you to sixth grade, He will. He will be right beside you, loving you.
2. You are important and capable. I
look at all of you and I see future leaders. You are the future of this
country. You can do more than I ever could. You are going to be teachers,
doctors, lawyers, scientists, writers, business owners, artists, and so much
more. All of you are capable of doing the things you dream of. Don’t forget
that. Don’t stop dreaming. You have something to offer the world.
Remember
when you go to sixth grade to be a friend to others and they will be a friend
to you. Follow God with all of your heart. He is the most important person you
could ever have as a friend and he won’t lead you the wrong way. You might make
mistakes. But he will forgive you. You might have something terrible happen to
you and you might feel unsure if He’s really there. During those times, think of the conversations we’ve had
this year. God uses all things for good. Love God, and love those around you
and you will be filled with Joy. I
will end with your verses from this year:
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil cling to what is
good. Be dedicated to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:9-10
“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust
in him. Your roots will go down into God’s love and keep you strong.” Ephesians
3:17
I love you and I miss you already! Please come and visit me
anytime!
Love,
Miss Yoder
