Stay Tuned: Blogging Season Begins
It's blogging season again. If there is such a thing. It's interesting to me that although fall is a time of certain things "dying" before winter, I see it as a time of new beginnings. I think it's because fall so often involves change, transition, movement, readjusting, excitement, and anxiety. I had every intention to try and blog a few times over the summer, but it just never felt quite right. I couldn't get the words out I wanted to, or I simply didn't feel like writing.
To give you a tiny glimpse into my summer here are a few random facts:
- I worked at Yoder's Meat and Cheese Company as a cashier, a deli person, a stock person, and a packaging person...and well whatever they needed.
- I got to volunteer for 3 glorious days at mini camp where I played with 6-8 and year olds and loved them and told them about Jesus.
- I visited 7 States and 1 Province in Canada that I had never been to. (Drove through some that I had, and visited my cousins in another part of Canada as well)
- This meant I spent 75 hours in a van with my family and traveled 3500 miles.
- I was a bridesmaid in 1 wedding.
- I sang in another wedding with Erin.
- I went out to coffee, played, games, hung out, and talked for many hours with friends.
- I led worship for the kids at my church and taught some Sunday School.
And it all seemed so normal. In fact, so normal that I don't quite feel like I am going to be going back to Honduras tomorrow morning. I can say that I have gone through a myriad of emotions this summer. In the beginning, I didn't even want to think of going back right away. But now, I am excited to go back and filled with hope about the new year. I have learned that although there are days when I feel frustrated or don't love being a teacher, that I do love it overall. I love kids. And it gives me a sense of purpose that I simply don't receive from doing other things. So in preparation for the year, I thought that I would state a few of my goals for this year... although more may be added, or changed.
- I would like to maintain an attitude of joy and positivity throughout this year and one of the ways I want to do that is by writing down something I am thankful in my journal each day. I may share these periodically on my blog, although maybe not each day.
- I want to have a much more concrete and practical classroom management plan. This is going to include spending more time practicing procedures and working on the problems at the BEGINNING of the year instead of after they are already habits. =)
Well those are really only two things for right now. I'm looking forward to meeting the new teachers and my new students, of course!
Some things I have missed:
- Wonderful people
- Spanish
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- kisses when being greeted
- cheap movies
- card nights
- house mate dinners
- Church (CCI)
- the mountains
- La Tigra
- obscure holidays
And probably a whole lot more I can't think of at the moment. Here's to year two, I hope you'll stay tuned for the newest adventures!
