I met Jesus at work today

So I've had this blog for a while. There's just one problem. I don't write on it. I've decided that I need to try and actually do this thing, because if I have a blog, I should use it. My goal has been to learn to appreciate the little things in life and the things that God is teaching me daily.
Today I met Jesus while working at the IGA. Ok, so he wasn't REALLY Jesus, he was just an actor. However, he did get me thinking. There is a musical/play/show going on at the Bluegate that depicts the life of Jesus. This man is a member of that cast. I was talking to him as I would any other customer and it wasn't until later that I realized who he was. I then started thinking about what I would do if that man had really been Jesus. The Bible says in Matthew 25:
34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

This got me thinking, why don't I take this literally? So often I am convicted by this passage, wondering why do I not treat each person I meet as if they were really truly Jesus. Even in little things, if Jesus was buying a pop at my store today, how would I do my job to honor him? If Jesus is my mom, how can I kindly help her with one of her needs? Needless to say, this added a bit of purpose to my work today as I continued doing my what I usually consider somewhat boring work. I've realized that even in working at something I don't find great purpose in, for example front and facing the canned vegetable aisle, I can spend valuable time with God. The hours seemed to pass more quickly when I was spending time praying while doing simple tasks or really focusing on treating customers with friendliness and respect. I also decided today that I was going to look for little things that brought me joy today in a grocery store, funny moments, realizations or just little joys.

1st I had a rather humorous conversation with an elderly man that went something like this:

(an older man comes to the register with two cartons of orange juice)

ME: Getting your vitamin C in huh?

Man: Yes... but i gotta add a little something to kill the germs.

ME: huh? Man: You know haven't you ever tried adding a little something?

Me (Still confused): like what?

Man: a little vodka kills all the germs. (followed by him histerically laughing)

Me: Oh... uh no. (chuckling)

and later a conversation with a random woman:

Me: would you like a bag for that mam?

Woman: Oh, no I'm going to drink it. I'm so thirsty I could spit cotton balls.

Other things that brought me joy:

- realizing that companies who produce canned goods really should make so that their cans stack... it just doesn't make sense why they wouldn't.

- when couples argue about silly things like which groceries should go in which bag

- when little children feel like they are adults because they get to hand you the cash

-when little children think they have the world in their hands because they have a quarter to use in the gumball machine

-the new Sunchips bags. they weren't kidding in the commercial they are SO loud. It makes me laugh every time.

So it may be just another day in the life of a cashier, but I found joy and I found Jesus. =)

Yours till the kitchen sinks,
