Open House
The past few days have been crazy. I finished my classroom yesterday, well for the most part. =) I took some pictures that I will post. I have been absolutely exhausted by the time I got home each day. I've been going to bed early, around 10:00, but I'm still usually tired in the morning.
Today was our open house. I got to meet many of the parents and children. So far I love them! One of the students told me that he wished school started sooner. Most of them seem pretty excited to come, which is awesome! I'm not sure how motivated they'll be once we actually start learning, but I'll take what I can get. =) The kids all gave me hugs and kisses when they came in and when they left.
The parents seem nice as well. A few of them speak English, but most of them speak Spanish. I did not receive a translator today, so I was left on my own to try and translate, sometimes with a little help from the children. But it went well! Several of the parents told me they were impressed and that I did very well. One of the parents told me that I have a very good accent. =) The majority of the parents really seem to want their students here and told me to contact them if I need anything. The support is awesome, I hope it stays that way!
In other news, we got a nice downpour yesterday as effects from the Hurricane. However, we are far enough in land that we won't get much from it. We had a birthday party last night for one of the teachers, which was really my first social event. It was nice to get out of the house and go play some games and just hang out. I am looking forward to more of that. We should also go on a pretty sweet trip sometime in September.
So here are a few pictures of my classroom:
