blessed assurance
I decided to redecorate my blog space a bit and I added the chorus of the hymn "Blessed Assurance". As I have been thinking these past few days there is little I am sure of. However, Jesus remains consistent. I am excited, terrified, overwhelmed, and thrilled to beginning a new adventure in just a few days. Even during this time God has been faithful in teaching me the things I need to realize. So to begin, I will share this song with you. Here are the words:
vs.1
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
vs.2
Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
(Refrain)
vs.3
Perfect submission, all is at rest!
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with his goodness, lost in His love.
The reason this song was brought to mind is my grandpa. I had the privilege of spending some time with my family this weekend. We visited my grandpa and took some time to sing some songs with him. This is his favorite hymn. My grandpa who is 96 years old has lived a very faithful life. I hope that when I am 96 years old, I can also say that my song, my life, has been about praising Jesus. I especially love the last verse. To be happy and blessed because of my savior and filled with his goodness and lost in his love.
I want to be lost in his love everyday. To know that his love is enveloping everything I do.
Another lesson I have been learning is to live simply. I consider myself a low maintenance kind of girl, but I have way more than I need. As I try to pack all my belongings into two suitcases, I realize that I do not need a majority of what I have. So, here is to finding the things I need, settling on which of the things I want are more important then others. But not only does this apply to my suitcase and living a simple life, but also to how I live my life. I can't take my stuff into eternal life. What are my priorities? What am I packing? Who and what are of the most value to me?
So, I've already written way too much for one blog post, but hey I have a lot of musings today, huh? =) Although these days are filled with bitter sweet goodbyes, they are also filled with hope. With promise of new adventures, new friendships, and so much more. So to you my friends who are reading this, I leave you with a little quote that I like a lot from Charlotte's Web.
"You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die. A spider's life can't help being something of a mess, with all this trapping and eating flies. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that."
